Commitment and passion for outstanding sports photography

 Past and Present

Passion

Sophie Ross' journey into the world of sports photography began way before picking up the camera. Having played football her whole youth, there was always a desire to share some of the best moments back and show others how amazing Women's Football is. When she first picked up a camera and took it along to a youth football game in 2021, she knew this was the best way to honour her younger self. Since then Sophie has had the opportunity to work with some incredible organisations. Photographing Kilmarnock U18 VS Dundee U18 Cup Final at Hamden, the Scotland Women U21 Squad, working closely with YFS and many local teams. Since those early days, Sophie has made connections with top notch organisations and expanded her skills to lots of other sports - making a point to attempt each sport! Sophie has teamed up with Scottish Student Sport, meaning she is able to cover the whole of University Sports in Scotland - shining a light on the biggest and niches sports. Sophie has also been involved with BasketballScotland, working at their 3x3 tournaments, SBC Cup Finals and Scottish Schools Cup. Sophie also made her pro Basketball debut recently, getting to photograph the Caledonia Gladiators Women's Team in their playoff run.

Signature Style: Raw and Emotional Storytelling

Sophie's photographic style is a testament to her belief in the power of imagery to tell stories that resonate. Known for her bold, graphic compositions and a cinematic approach that brings each subject to life, Sophie has a unique ability to transform athletes into larger-than-life characters. Her work is characterized by its dynamic use of light, shadow, and perspective, capturing the essence of extreme sports with an intensity that pulls the viewer into the heart of the action.

Various Projects: Beyond  Sports Photography

While Sophie's photography has taken her to some of the best sporting venues in Scotland, her creative pursuits extend beyond Sports Photography. Sophie has experience in Weddings, Portraits, Babies and Families, Events and also has expertise in Sports Videography. Sophie believes that photos are timeless and one of the most powerful ways to preserve memories and emotion. After leaving University with a degree in Psychology, she developed an even deeper understanding of how important human connection and memory truly are. This perspective has heavily influenced her work, allowing her to focus not only on the big moments, but also the quieter details and emotions that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Being able to put herself in the shoes of other is something Sophie values deeply within her Photography. Through her work, she has met some incredible people and experienced inspiring stories from all walks of life. She sees photography as more than simply taken pictures - it is also a platform to highlight and promote others, particularly women in sport, smaller sports, and underrepresented communities whose stories deserve to be seen and celebrated.
